Biographical
Information
Dr. Baker is the current
chair of the Furman Physics Department.
Prior to coming to Furman, he was
a senior research manager at Michelin
Americas Research and Development
Corporation. His research interests
are gravitation, General Relativity
and optics. Each year he works with
2 to 4 students on various projects
and studies in these areas. Two of
his recently research projects, "Optimum
Z-Scan Method for Third Harmonic Characterization"
and "Optical
Properties of Glucose," are
now available in PDF format.
Dr. Baker’s most
recently published article is "Projective
Invariance in Cosmological Models
and Dark Energy," International
Journal of Theoretical Physics,
Springer, Netherlands, June 2006.
While at Furman
University, Dr. Baker has served
as the Henry and Ellen Townes Assistant
Professor of Physics, He is also the
recipient of the 2003 Innovision Award
for Innovation in Education, for his
article “Computer Cluster Development
and Application to the Analyses of
Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND)”.
November, 2003.
He is currently teaching
both of the departments’ introductory
Physics courses, Physics 11 and 12,
as well as Classical Mechanics I and
II and Introduction to Astronomy and
Astrophysics.
